Black History Month Event: Heroines of Politics

Join the Black and Latino Alumni Network and the Department of Africana Studies for a Black History Month virtual event on Wednesday, February 24, from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Kamala Harris’ inauguration last month was a milestone — the manifestation of a transformation that began in the recent election cycle. Black women have emerged as a powerful force in politics, from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ victory to the grassroots organizing power of Stacey Abrams in the Georgia Senate runoffs.

The panel will examine the roots of this movement — dating back to the work of barrier-shattering women like Shirley Chisholm, Sojourner Truth and Fannie Lou Hamer — and will analyze the potential impact on the country’s direction in the post-Trump era.
